OBJECTIVES OF COURSE
Human rights and their defense represent a very complex contest. Regardless of the contest of reference, knowledge of institutions and of strategies for the defense of human rights is fundamental, in order to correctly manage professional relations. This course aims at giving concrete tools useful for positioning human rights and their defense in the adequate social and professional context, through a detailed analysis of the nature and the development of them both at International and National levels.
TEACHING CONTENTS
I MODULE (One Day)
– Elements of anthropology, history, juridical sociology and international law and analysis of contexts in which it is revealed violation of human rights (one hour)
– Basic notions: human rights (absolute and relative), defense, violation of human rights, population, people, minorities, monitoring and possible punition against violations (one hour)
– Individuals who possess rights: men, women, children, old people, sick persons, differently able people, foreigners, stateless people (two hours)
– International and National Legislative framework of reference (one hour)
– Identification of victims: who is the person who is subjected to violation of human rights? (one hour)
– Personal interest towards collective interest (one hour)
– Exercise: Who is the person who has the right not to have rights? (one hour)
II MODULE (One Day)
– Philosophic principles for human rights (one hour)
– Creation of rights hierarchy: between myth and utopia (two hours)
– European Convention on Human Rights (one hour)
– Exercise: to implement protection contexts of human rights (one hour)
– The punition in case of verified violation of a right (one hour)
– Human rights and gender issues (one hour)
– Case study: are human rights social rights? (one hour)
TRAINING METHODOLOGIES
The course entirely develops in class. Frontal lessons and concrete exercises will be duly balanced.
TRAINING MATERIAL
At the beginning of each lesson students will receive printed slides. During lessons, websites and useful links will be communicated to students and this material will be used for the development of different simulation exercises.
DURATION OF COURSE
The course will last 16 hours.
NUMBER OF ATTENDEES
Maximum number of students: 15/20.
